I signed up new Medicare supplemental provider, United

Customer Question

I signed up for a new Medicare supplemental provider, United Health Care through AARP. I had/have Tufts HMO.
When I signed up with United Health Care I specifically requested that coverage begin December 1, 2015. I received assurances from United Health Care personnel that coverage would begin on December 1, I was very specific about the date that I wanted coverage to begin and had it verified by at least 3 people at United Health Care. As a result of their assurances I scheduled appointments in December with an orthopedic surgeon who recommended an MRI.
Now, United Health Care says that coverage does not begin until January 1, 2016. Apparently, Tufts HMO is still my plan and does not cover the visit with the orthopedic surgeon or the MRI because I am out of area (I live in MA and FL).
Medicare personnel have not been helpful. How do I resolve this?
Thank you,

I also spoke to Medicare and they were unhelpful.

Do you have documentation from United that the policy was effective December 1? Do you have proof of payment to them for December?
