Customer Question

Hi, I will be traveling from IAD to London around XMAS. I would like to put an inert paper weight hand grenade (big whole in the bottom) and a belt of replica inert bullets in my check in baggage for my six year old nephew. Should I ask for a weapons check when I get to the counter. When you look at the items the are obviously harmless. I used to work Security at IAD and have a 4 year degree in Aviation Security in the 80's It was a specialized degree constructed by myself and FAA security personnel. I am sure when they see the items the will agree they are harmless. I am willing to do whatever to make my check in as smooth as possible.
Could you please advise me

Hi my name is ***** ***** I am happy to assist you.

These items are prohibited items as even with a security check if they are seen without knowing they are not live it will cause the area to be in a sense put on lockdown and evacuated.

I know this is not dangerous items but they are prohibited due to the threats that some that look and are the same actually have been real.
