Customer Question

Let me start with the fact that I am an RN. I was having a conversation with a guy I was dating and he spoke of a threat of suicide. I called his local dispatch to do a wellness check on him. Now he is threatening to take my license to the state with a grievance because I am a medical professional and I didn't check with a mental health professional before I called the police. I am wondering if his threat on my license has any merit.

Thank you for your question.

No one is required to consult a mental health professional prior to reporting a person who made a threat of suicide, so I do not see this as a threat to your license.

I hope this information is helpful.
