We need two DOT #s so we can use two different insurance companies

Customer Question

We need two DOT #s so we can use two different insurance companies so we can put our non-apportioned trucks on a much cheaper policy. Cannot have 2 dot#s per Company. what is the cheapest way to go about this?

Thank you for your question. I look forward to working with you to provide you the information you are seeking for educational purposes only.
The cheapest way to go about this is to form a new LLC with the original company being the owner of the new LLC and then have the new LLC apply for a DOT number for the non-apportioned fleet and you run the non-apportioned business out of the LLC.
