After reading the novel Shogun, I was online looking for pictures

This answer was rated:

After reading the novel Shogun, I was online looking for pictures of Japanese women in kimonos. I clicked on several of the listings from the Google search list, and some of them turned out to be porn sites. I exited them quickly. About thirty minutes later, the computer screen has a notice from US Dept of Justice saying I have violated copyright and child pornography law.It has locked my computer. It says the first offense will not be prosecuted if I send a money order for $300 and my computer will be unlocked. Is this real or a scam? I am not a pervert, I was not looking at girls but instead had looked to learn about geishas and samuris and fuedal Japan from a historical interest. When I opened porn sites it was by accident and from Google search. I don't want to be arrested or on any porn abuse list. Should I pay the $300? Will that clear everything up, or will I still be subject to arrest and surveillance? Or is this just a scam? If so, how do I unlock my computer?

This is a scam. And I suggest you do not want to send anyone any money. The DOJ does NOT operate in that manner

I suggest that the viewing of online porn is not illegal unless it involves persons under the age of 18.

I further suggest that many persons "accidently" get into a porn site and that sometimes that traffic is directly there intentionally by the same Scam artists that have contacted you

As to unlocking your computer, It is something you need to talk to one of computer experts about. they can assist you - once you rate this answer and then post in the Computer Category of this website.

I am not a computer expert and so I don't know that information

But I do know what has happened to you is a scam
