I have a Civil Suit filed against me & my business by landlord

This answer was rated:

I have a Civil Suit filed against me & my business by landlord (WI) for Retail Lease that ended April 2010. We owed 45 days rent $4,000 and had $2,000 security deposit coming back - we offered to do check swap. They have blown this up to $12,000.

If I lose...even partially can they levy my checking / savings accounts?

Basically yes. If your business was a corporation, they would not be able to satisfy the judgment against any of your personal assets. But otherwise, your personal bank accounts can be levied to satisfy a civil judgment against you. However, there is a $5,000 exemption under Wisconsin law for personal bank accounts (Wisconsin Statutes § 815.18[3][k]). Thus, for personal bank accounts they would only be able to levy the amount in your account which is above $5,000.
