Is there a difference between a "certificate of live birth"

This answer was rated:

Is there a difference between a "certificate of live birth" and a birth certificate, or is that two different phrases for the same document?

Hello Jon,
My name isXXXXX a licensed attorney (State Bar of Texas). Glad to try and help out.
Here's how this works.
The former ("certificate of live birth") is the "long form" original containing the full information and filed (by hospital staff or whomever attended the birth...physician, midwife, etc.) shortly after the birth. The latter ("birth certificate") is the "short form" pertaining to the same birth but issued by the government upon proper request.
If you have a follow-up question or need clarification, please just say the word by using "reply" to reach me. I hope all works out for you.
Take care,
Ben, J.D.
