The "latest" regarding affirmative action is the lawsuit which is currently before the US Supreme Court, called "Fisher v. University of Texas".

Fisher is a white girl who was denied admission to the university where at the same time minority students with similar or lesser academic qualifications were granted admission. Fisher is claiming reverse discrimination.

Current law, established by a Supreme Court ruling in 2003, allows schools to consider race in narrow circumstances to achieve a “critical mass” of minority students. But the high court said the practice cannot continue indefinitely and called on them to work toward a colorblind admission process.
