Thank you for your question and for using JA. Please click accept so I will receive credit from JA for my time.

It depends on whether they came with the plane or were his personal purchases. If with the plane then the one sixth is correct. If they were his personal items, then you own one half and the estate owns one half.

So does that mean the car my husband bought me in 2008 and titled in both our names, ( mine first, his second ) also belongs 1/2 to the estate?

If a vehicle is titled jointly to you and the deceased, or you have other questions about transferring ownership of a vehicle, please contact WisDOT:

  • E-mail: [email protected]
    • Because WisDOT may have to research your question before replying, please allow 4 business days for an e-mail response. Please do not send a second e-mail.
    • E-mails must contain a license plate number or vehicle identification number in order for us to respond to your inquiry.
  • Call: (608) 266-1466, between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday
If it is titled as Mr or Mrs then you own the vehicle.

If it is titled Mr and Mrs then you own your marital half and the estate owns half but double check as noted above.
