I had a piece of mail delivered to me that has my ex-husbands

This answer was rated:

I had a piece of mail delivered to me that has my ex-husbands name on it. Can I open it? It is addressed to him with my address on it.

Thank you
Thanks for your question.

I would advise not to do so. It's against federal law if it's addressed to him. Especially since he's your ex-husband, you're not likely to get the benefit of the doubt as to your intent. I'd leave it sealed and forward it to him.

I am glad I asked however I was under the impression that if a piece of mail was delivered to your home, no matter who's name is XXXXX XXXXX you could open it, unless it said personal and confidential on the envelope. No?
It matters who it's addressed it to as opposed to the delivery address.
