Is a contract legal if you printed your name but then did not

This answer was rated:

Is a contract legal if you printed your name but then did not sign it with your signature? The contract has now expired but there is a non-compete clause which they are trying to enforce (the reason for not signing it.)

Did you print your name on the signature line? Where did you print your name?

Customer: replied 6 years ago.
It was my wife and she printed her name below the signature line and dated it. It was a lease for her to run the hair salon at The Woods at Canco in Portland, ME a Holiday Retirement home. It was the first time in six years that they put a non-compete in. All other previous leases were signed but not this one.
A contract generally has to be signed by the party to be charged in order to be enforceable. The fact that she printed her name below the signature line but did not sign it indicates that she didn't intend to be bound by the contract.

Ok that is what we thought.
That would also make the 1 year and 10 mile radius on the non-compete invalid?

My position was that it is not valid because it was not signed, even though she paid the rent increase does not mean that she is bound by the contract. They could have given her an eviction notice at any time if they wanted her to sign it.

If the agreement is not signed, none of it is enforceable.
