What does JD mean when used after an attorneys name

Customer Question

JD means that the attorney is an attorney. JD stands for Juris Doctorate which is the degree we obtain upon successful graduation from law school after college. It does not necessarily mean the attorney is licensed to practice or has passed any state bar exams. Unfortunately there is no letters to let a person know the attorney actually practices law or has passed a state bar exam.
