My mini pot belly pig has been vomiting. She vomited a lot…

Customer Question
My mini pot belly...

My mini pot belly pig has been vomiting.

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. Hopefully it didn't make a mess. Did the pig eat anything unusual?

No. She vomited a lot of grass last night

Veterinarian's Assistant: OK. The Expert will know what to do. What is the pig's name and age?

Her name is ***** ***** she is almost 4 years old.

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Frankie?

She pooped this morning but won't eat anything. She has a little bit of coconut water this morning too.

Hello,

My name is ***** ***** I have been a Vet tech for 36+ years. I would like to assist Frankie. YOur question was sent to me since it seems there was no Vets on at the time with Mini Pig knowledge.

Vomiting can be caused by a variety of problems from gorging on a food or in this case grasses, Pain, Constipation to kidney or liver issues.

At this time you need to fast Frankie for 6 hours to allow the stomach to rest. When you go to feed make it a light soft diet and you can give Pedialyte mixed with water for hydration. If you feed or give water after vomiting it will promote it.

I would get her temperature to rule out a fever. chack for pain and stop her from rooting out in the grass. Wait the 6 hours and see how she does with the sot diet and Pedialyte water mix. If this continues, you need to have her seen as soon as possible, I am hoping that she may have gorged on too much grass and it has upset the stomach.

Please hit reply to discuss this information. I will be here all eveing.
