Customer Question

I have a calf that has stiff legs, walks like frankenstein, knocking her front two hocks together. She eats fine, just terribly stiff legged. Wondering if there is any supplements or injections available to help?

Hi, I'm Dr. Bonk. I'm sorry to hear about your calf's troubles. Are the joints swollen or hot? If they are, that could indicate a systemic infection which would require an antibiotic like penicillin or LA 200. If not, she may be experiencing a deficiency in selenium and Vit E. Both are needed for normal muscle function and many areas in the country are deficient. You can try giving her a dose of Bo-Se or other selenium injection to see if that helps. You should be able to find Bo-Se at most feed stores or veterinary clinics. It is inexpensive and definitely worth a try.I hope this helps. Please contact me with any further questions you may have. Thank you and good luck!
