Customer Question

We have a four yr old jersey steer who is apparently having problems chewing. Up to a month ago there haven't been any mastication issues. Now, even second cut hay isn't helping. There is no fever, no external areas of swelling. He is loosing weight and we don't know what to. I hope you can offer a suggestion.
Thank you!

Hello & welcome, I am Dr. B, a licensed veterinarian and I would like to help you today. I do apologize that your question was not answered before. Different experts come online at various times; I just came online, read about your wee one’s situation, and wanted to help.

Again I do apologize that my colleagues could not aid you sooner, but can you tell me:

Any changes in the mouth (ie ulcers, trauma, growths, etc)?

Any lost or compromised teeth?

Does he seem to struggle to chew or also to swallow?

Any history of oral, nasal, or throat trauma?

Does he seem to struggle more on one side?
