Technician's Assistant: What's the brand/model and Operating System (OS) of your laptop?

Model # C55-A5249, I think it has to do with a BIOS password

Technician's Assistant: What have you tried so far with your C55-A5249? Have you installed any updates recently?

I can't do anything

Thank you for contacting Just Answer. This is a premium / paid support service.

If the password ***** to do with the BIOS, you can reset it by:

1) While the notebook is off, remove the back panel of the Memory/RAM

2) Short the pins indicated as "B500" and turn on the computer

3) Power off the computer and remove the short to the pins.

This procedure works for many C55-A and C55-B models.

Please ignore the request for premium service / remote access, it is automatic and I do not have control on it.

You don't need to remove the battery, just short the two pins, it will reset all the BIOS settings to default, deleting the BIOS password.

Do you have access to the button battery connector? It should be also located next to the RAM slot, but I do not have schematics for your specific model.

Ok, do so:

1) Leave the notebook off, remove the notebook battery (not the button one)

2) Detach the button battery

3) Press the power on button for 30 seconds to power drain the notebook

4) Leave the notebook for 5 minutes without any battery, reconnect everything and boot it up

You can attach the same battery, no need to replace it with a new one.

Removing all power sources was needed just to reset the bios settings including the password.

If the existing CMOS is low or flat after not in use for years, you need to get a replacement. It will not cost you a fortune as it should be under $10 USD.

Have you found and identified the model of the CMOS battery on motherboard of your Toshiba laptop?

The required model number can be identified from the old CMOS battery.

Do NOT guess or try. It must be exact same or compatible one. Many PC's use a CR2032 but without your existing CMOS battery's number we can't say for sure. Look at the existing battery and see what the battery type is.
