It won't connect to the Toshiba external drive

Technician's Assistant: What's the model and Operating System (OS) of your Toshiba?

I can't make out the sin number 409FC247 (maybe) 409FC54T (and other numbers I can't see. It's an external drive not a pc.

Technician's Assistant: What have you tried so far with your Toshiba? Have you installed any updates recently?

I just installed one to try to fix it USB device not recognized (is the message)
