I was given an...

I was given an Acer Aspire E1-470P computer that was owned by someone else who died. It was bought at an Estate Sale. Whomever owned it had put a password ***** on the Bios Chip and I can't get by it. Is there any way to circumvent the Bios Chip password

Technician's Assistant: What Operating System (OS) are you running on your Aspire?

Windows 8 I think.

Technician's Assistant: Have you tried rebooting from a DVD or flash drive?

Yes., I can't sign in to do so.

Technician's Assistant: Anything else you want the Computer Expert to know before I connect you?

I was told to replace the hard drive to get around it but that didn't work either.

The bios is built in to the motherboard, so as you found out changing the hard drive will not work. This is a laptop, correct?

In order to reset the bios you need to remove the bios battery from the motherboard for a few minutes. To get to this you will need to disassemble the laptop.

I believe on this particular laptop it may be soldered in. You will need to desolder it to remove it.

It still comes up with Password/Unlock Key and under that it says Unlock Key Hint Number A3EB586F.

Okay, I've got one more trick. There should be a reset jumper for the bios on the motherboard. Locate the small metal pads on the motherboard marked "CLRP1" and place a conductive tool across the contacts, and then connect the power cord and hold the power button on until the system boots up past the BIOS power on self test. Release the power button and disconnect the power cord.
