> I have an old Acer One computer and the screen mode is set

Customer Question

Hi> I have an old Acer One computer and the screen mode is set so I cam barely see the date. How do I lighten it?
JA: What's the make/model of your device? How old is it?
Customer: It is a 2014 Acer One Windows 7 and 10.1 LED
JA: How long has this been going on? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: I just now rebooted it. It has been in storage for 2 years
JA: Anything else you want the electronics expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: No. I just cannot see the data on the screen. Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the site, I’m Louie. Sorry you had to wait awhile but I’ll do my best to help.

Initially, have you tried manually adjusting the screen brightness?

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
FN key with the right arrow with the sun on it.

And as a final attempt, have you tried the Fn key with the F6 key ?

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
To no avail.

Then it would be an internal hardware issue.

Are you then considering a DIY (do-it-yourself) repair approach? If yes, do you have access to and familiar with a multi-meter (and even perhaps a soldering iron)?

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
No. I guess I will have to take it to a repair place. Just trying to make it work so I can sell it.

I understand.

The most likely suspect would be the backlight inverter. Something like the part shown HERE.

I realize that the above information may perhaps be not what was expected. Unfortunately, there is no quick-n-easy fix and neither is there a workaround; sorry for having to be the bearer of bad news.

Still, good luck and thank you for the opportunity to share the information.

Thanks. And just to confirm - this cost me just $5 on my credit card.
