when i turn it on it shows the name toshiba and then the screen goes black and that is as far as i can go.

JA: What kind of computer do you have? Do you know what Operating System (OS) you're running?
Customer: its a toshiba satellite s55-b5280 and i think it came with windows 8 but got upgraded to windows 10. i bought for my son for college.
JA: Have you installed any updates recently? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: yes i think the problem is an update failure. i had my son take it to staples which is where i bought it and they ran a diagnostic

I am sorry for the problem. Please do the following:

1. Completely turn off the laptop

2. Disconnect the power connector from the laptop as well as any other hardware that is connected (mouse, printer, external hard disk drive, etc)

3. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, and then release it

4. Now re-connect the power adapter and turn the laptop on
