I went to link - the ipod is plugged into my laptop. A message comes up saying "the ipod is locked with a passcode and must enter this before we can continue". I am unable to get to the passcode on the ipod as the error is on the main page saying Ipod is disabled try again in 24000000 year etc

If you've synced with iTunes, use iTunes.
If you're signed in to iCloud and Find My iPhone is enabled, use iCloud.
If you don't use iCloud and you can't sync or connect with iTunes, use recovery mode.

You can please try to use recovery mode(Erase your device with recovery mode).
