This tree (attached) is in my half brother and his new wife

Customer Question

Hello. This tree (attached) is in my half brother and his new wife 's back yard. They don't know what it is, but she likes it and wants to keep it. Does you know what it might be? The trunk has spines. Someone mentioned that it might be bougainvillea, but my mother doesn't think so. They are in San Jose, CA, Zone 9b.Thank you.

To identify, I need a close up of the leaves, and a close up of the trunk.

But the habit and silhouette of the leaves looks like Bougainvillea.

It's most certainly a bougainvillea.

Ahh, thank you. :) My half brother and his wife have owned the home since December, and are not sure when it was planted, it how it was cared for. He said that he has never seen it bloom, but I said that it may be too young to bloom.

Hello. Would you be able to lead me a source of information for bougainvillea blooming? When should he expect it to bloom? Thank you.
