I will detail my situation. In 2016 I was staying with
In 2016 I was staying with family while awaiting for my apartment to become ready to move in on June 4, 2016. While staying with my family in NYC it was their renewal for their lease and I was informed that being that I was staying in the apartment despite moving out the following month I would need to sign. So I signed the lease as an occupant and the next month I moved at as I informed the leasing manger at the time. I then sent a formal notice to the leasing company for the apartment informing them that I moved out. At the beginning of the next year (2017) i was made aware that the family i was staying with was evicted. While i felt sorry for the situation at the time I thought to myself that I should not have any liability as there was no balance when I moved out and I never received any notice from the leasing company at any point. In 2017 I thing recieved a credit delinquency notice regarding the debt for this apartment. I disputed the debt and the credit agency (Transunion) agreed and removed the delinquency from my credit report. The following year 2018 I received another credit delinquency notice for the same debt but this time from a different collection agency. When i disputed it this time the credit agency did not agree and instead denied the dispute. In 2019 I then received another delinquency notice from another credit agency who was now threatening to take me to court for this matter. I wrote back informing them that a credit agency is already on my credit report for this same matter and also I only resided in the apartment for a month of the lease and the leasing manager is aware because I notified them through a certified mail. As of last week that same credit agency that wrote me threatening to take me to court served me with a complaint as a party to lawsuit where they are seeking the money from the eviction. … read more
