In February my girlfriend and I moved in with a friend who had a contract with the landlord who is also a preacher 15 months of rent for him to fix up the house and get it ready to rent it the landlord knew we were here and knew that my girlfriend was helping our friend with the renovation I never once asked us to leave over a month ago our friend was arrested and will not be getting out anytime soon the landlord along with another member from the church came by shortly after our friend was arrested did a walk-through of the house and property with my girlfriend and decided that her and I could stay and they offered her the same contract they had with our friend my girlfriend has a text message from the landlord asking for her ID and in my ID so that they could finish up drawing up the contract for us to sign we never got the chance to sign the contract about a week ago the city came in and verbally condemn the house told us they were taking the water meter and turned off the water after two days of not having water we went out there and saw that they didn't take the meter they just shut off the water we turn the water back on the landlord also has another rent house right down the street that is vacant and has been ready to rent out for a few months now my girlfriend asked him if we could go there she would be willing to pay the deposit he was asking her for and the first month's rent and he absolutely refused and said no now the landlord is saying that we don't have a contract signed nor is there a verbal contract he is now saying that we are basically just squatting in his house if we were to move our stuff into the rent house what kind of trouble could we be in what are our rights and what are the landlord's obligations … read more
