I have recently vacated an apartment. I have recently
I have recently vacated an apartment in Washington State. The lease was up April 30th, in which we left exactly on that day. They failed to mention we had to turn the keys in "as a surrender" even though we asked when we should be out of the apartment with no response. The next following day I got a call saying I have to pay rent now because its the first of may and I didn't turn the keys in. Are they able to do that? … read more

I have a question regarding a lease agreement. Florida. On
On the date of 2-28-19, we provided to the leasing manager an intent to vacate. Upon reviewing the contract, there was a verbal agreement that if we stayed beyond the date to vacate of 5-1-19, there would be no other fees or notices required to leave, besides continuing to pay the rental amount stated in the month to month contract, returning of the keys upon leaving, and cleaning the apartment. On the date of 12/18/19 ,we contacted the new leasing manager to confirm a date in which we would turn in the keys and to confirm the checkout procedure for cleaning the apartment. Despite already providing an intent to leave on February, 28th, 2019 she informed us that we would have to give a new intent to vacate form as well as continue to pay the total rent amount stated on the month to month lease through the date of February 17th 2020. Sunny informed Michelle of his prior agreement with Moises, and Michelle stated that since it was not in writing , it would not be adhered to. Sunny signed a new intent to vacate.Upon reviewing the lease and failing to see any written verbiage that indicates an expiration date of the intent to vacate, Diamond Geiger went into the leasing office to request that Michelle direct them to the part of the contract that contrasts our findings. Michelle was unable to do so. She simply stated that "it is common knowledge". Since what she was trying to hold us accountable for was “not in writing” on the leasing agreement, I requested to speak to her boss- the owner of Westshore Apartments. Michele informed me that she would not give me his contact information. I requested that she have him contact me instead- she declined this as well. … read more
