Do you handle residential tenant/landlord issues? Both are
I'm the tenant. I am meeting with my landlord tomorrow and want to know my options before I go. I rented a townhouse from June 2017 - May 31, 2020. In March my landlord told me he was selling and would let me out of my lease early, to let him know when I was moving out. I gave him my 30 day notice on May 7 and texted him yesterday that I was out and asked when he wanted to meet to do the walk through, get the keys and opener. All he responded with was "how did it go" This morning he texted me saying that he was at the property with his listing agent and they both think it smells bad and accused me of being a smoker (I am not, nor are any family members or friends) I told him the new neighbors were smokers and if the windows are not shut the smoke comes in the bedrooms. When I first met him he told me he was all about cash flow. After I signed the lease he told me that the microwave was not a part of the lease and if it breaks I can buy a new one. I discovered the weatherstripping was missing around the front door-he told me it was that way when I moved in and if I thought I would spend that much more on Xcel I could fix it myself. He told me not to get the carpets cleaned because he would have them professionally done annually - he never did. I video taped the entire house yesterday before I left. It is perfectly clean. Now he has set up an appt for tomorrow morning because he's looking at the walls, the stains and the bad smell. I didn't think anyone was supposed to be in the home until after the walk through (the listing agent so he can get it on the market ASAP) I have all the texts, the video I made and I am bringing a witness with me to the walk through. What are my options? He's got my $2,000 security deposit. … read more
