i have a question regarding my rights as a tenant, my landlord is pretty much a para legal and she used to be everything except honest with me, she contacted me as a friend to give her a favor by renting her unit as regular tenant knowing that I will use the place to do Airbnb (I have all the message about it) yesterday I got an issue with the AC, it wasn't working anymore, I contacted her asking for help (as a landlord) she wasn't helpful at all and even worst she accused me to have broken the thermostat (she was wrong) whatever, after hours or research I called the right company who takes care of the building they come and repair, the diagnostic was obvious, a valve stayed stock and the AC wasn't cooling enough (I'm going to have the report of the technician + I record all the discuss while the technician was there) she was keeping saying it was because we played too much with the thermostat and it was our fault (she didn't want to pay for the repair) but the technician was clear about it, nothing was about the thermostat. Long story short I decide to give her a 30 days notice and due to the COVID19 I told her that I won't have the entire rent for the last month and authorize her to take whatever is missing from my deposit and that I will deduct of course whatever the bill from the company will be. She immediately answer that we will have to leave by the first (no 30 days notice) and she will take me to the court if I don't because I'm doing Airbnb and as long as I don't leave there she can do something against me (well, she begging us to do Airbnb with her unit in exchange of a higher rent, she even lied to her HAO when they caught the Airbnb) so now based on her honesty, I know for fact that she won't return my deposit back and plus I won't be able to get my money back that the company has charged, I would like to know what I can do if she doesn't give me my money back. … read more
