My grandfather's apartment starting seeping water from the
Good afternoon so my grandfather's apartment starting seeping water from the walls/living room floor last month. He placed a service request the same day- 2 weeks went by and the water continued to fill his apartment floor/wall creating mold. We asked my grandfather to move in with us while fighting with the leasing manager to have his apartment repaired. a couple days after he left, the kitchen sink, toilet and tub all started backing up with sewer water. I posted pictures of his apartment online as we couldn't get any answers. A couple days later, the leasing manager called and said her boss agreed to move him to a different apartment but it wouldn't be ready until the next evening. We arrived to move his things only to be told that they would no longer be moving him to the other apartment and that they would have his apartment repaired by the following day. I questioned the apartment complex being able to sufficiently remove 4 weeks of water, mold and sewer damages in 1 day. The leasing manager claimed that they would be able to fix the apartment. We arrived to the apartment the next day and no repairs had been completed. The following day, we received a phone call from the leasing manager that the apartment was completely repaired. My mom took my grandfather to the apartment- which had new paint to the walls, and new carpet. It was obvious that the walls were still went behind the sheetrock from the water, the floors in the kitchen still had water seeping through, there was mold along the walls and under the kitchen sink. I have all of this on video. I told the leasing manager he would not be moving back into the apartment and noted the poor repairs and clean up. The leasing manager told us he had the option to break his lease without penalty or move back into his current apartment- but the offer for the new apartment was no longer available. I agreed to move him from the apartment, but his belongings were ruined due to the assumption that he was to be moved to another apartment. He lives on a fixed income and had to come up with the money to pay the deposit and 1st month's rent for a new apartment complex. My question is- can I hold the apartment complex responsible for his acquired moving expenses/new apartment fees? And with the apartment being "repaired" and still showing signs of mold/water damage is there a way to file a civil suit for them to not rent to anyone else? he isn't the only one having issues in that building as his neighbor was moved for water problems as well. And the upstairs neighbors complain of having plumbing issues also. … read more
