Second opinion] I moved into a corner basement apartment in

Customer Question

Second opinion] Hello,I moved into a corner basement apartment in a downtown loft complex. After a few weeks, I notice having difficulty breathing and having asthma attacks. There were roaches in the hallway and some in my unit. I also noticed a moldy smell that doesn't seem to go away. I went to the doctor who wrote me a letter indicating I am sensitive to mold, dust, and roaches. She recommended I transfer to another unit. The apartment had a dehumidifier installed prior to me moving in, so I suspect the apartment had issues before with mold. I notified the leasing office and gave them documentation of my allergic sensitivity. They addressed the roaches by having an exterminator come in and work on the complex. Meanwhile, corporate has been giving me the run-around and I have been at the same unit for almost two months since my complaint. They approved me of a unit transfer but want me to pay the market price of the new unit and a new security deposit. I am extremely frustrated having to call in every few days asking for an update to transfer and now they are trying to having me pay more out of pocket. I am fed up and want to terminate my lease. Do I need legal representation prior to informing them of my intentions? What steps should I take to ensure this goes smoothly as possible? Thanks in advance!
