Ask a landlord-tenant lawyer and get answers ASAP
If you weren't under a written lease contract, then you were simply a month to month tenant and can generally terminate the tenancy with a written 30 day notice.
Any restriction about not being able to move during the holidays is completely unenforceable since you were not under any type of written lease contract.
