I am landlord in D.C. With a 1 year lease that expires

Customer Question

I am landlord in D.C. With a 1 year lease that expires October 31. It has a clause to become month to month if I do not give notice to end lease. I have given notice. Tenant is asking for a reason which I do not want to give her. Do I have to state a reason if I have a fixed period one year lease.

Hello and welcome! My name is ***** ***** I will try my level best to help with your situation or get you to someone who can.

.

Do I have to state a reason if I have a fixed period one year lease.

.

No, there is no law that states that a landlord has to give a reason for not renewing a lease. So you can simply refuse to state a reason or state something gen***** *****ke you have another tenant interested if you wanted to say anything.

.

But you don't have to say anything if you don't want to.

.

As an aside, in addition to being an attorney, I have also been a landlord for over 26 years...

.

.

thanks
