I am being billed $15K for a water leak. Tennessee. Not yet.
Our 12 month lease is up and we are now going month to month. We had a leak from the toilet that puddled into the adjacent rooms downstairs. We had it mopped up in minutes but notified maintenance. The property manager sent out one of their plumbers who came out days later. He flushed the toilet and saw that it works and said it must have been a clog that worked itself out. But I believe that it was not a clog but a deeper plumbing issue. Our lease states that tenant is responsible for water damage due to clogs if there's negligence, and property manager is responsible for repairs if there is a broken fixture, etc. There's no evidence as to what caused the leak. The property manager created work orders and the workers said there was moisture found in the floors and walls. They ripped up all the floors and drywall. We've been living in a construction site for weeks breathing in drywall dust. All of our furniture and appliances are covered in dust. No one warned us about that. It was never communicated that we would be responsible for any of these costs, until the property manager sent us a bill for the repairs. Do I have a case?… read more
