California tenant rights. I'm the tenant. I've notified my
no. I'm the tenant. I've notified my property manager in writing several times that I need to vacate due to health and financial reasons. I have asked for a breakdown of costs I'm responsible for breaking my lease 4 months early. The property manager has a tenant from the complex who has to move into my apartment June 1st due to water leak in her apartment that makes apartment uninhabitable. I have endured massive water damage from a closet roof caving in from water, rodent and maggot infestation, and bee infestation. I have reported these incidents to the manager over the years., We have resolved the issues together; however, during that time, the premises were assuredly uninhabitable and I reported to the property. owner that I sustained substantial losses of personal property. The owner stated he has zero responsibility to me. Now that the tenant wants to move into my apartment by June 1st, she wants the apartment prepared (paint/carpet) by owner. Property manager told me I was thinking of vacating around 5/20 -- which has been delayed due to my medical condition. I've reported in writing to the manager, that since she has a tenant she wants to move in and needs a week or so to prepare the apartment (paint/carpet). The manager is telling me now that I have to sign on the new tenant as a roommate. I don't want to be liable after I move out. I've requested return of my deposit, prorated rent for the time I paid for May from the date of my departure and return of prepaid last month's rent. Despite numerous written requests, I've received nothing from the manager that releases me from the lease or any monies returned. I've had to reschedule my moving date as a result and do not know my rights to vacating, liability and funds. The stress from not knowing my legal rights, lack of written release of lease responsibilities and financial refund status, with only a few days from needing to move, and moving after 17 years of tenancy, is causing me significant panic attacks and near nervous breakdown. What can I do to cover myself? … read more
