I failed my most recent safety inspection because my brake

Customer Question

I failed my most recent safety inspection because my brake lights won't work. Inspector said likely a blown fuse. Fuse didn't look blown but I replaced it anyway, and now still no brake lights.
JA: Have you checked the brake fluid? How's the level and when was it last changed?
Customer: 2011 Kia Soul
JA: Are you fixing your Soul yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: The only thing I've tried so far is replacing the fuse
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: Was told it probably wasn't the bulb since both lights are out
