2008 Kia spectra engine light came on. could not stay on

Customer Question

Hi there,
2008 Kia spectra engine light came on. could not stay on idle, backfires, stalling unless high rpm already replaced up stream o2 sensor, cleaned idle air control valve (needed to be cleaned after that the valve open and close smooth), Mass air intake sensor, the next throttle position sensor or ECM need some ideas to pinpoint the bad component. Suspect bad ECM.. would like to fix the vehicle.

HAve you pulled any of the diagnostic codes? I'm assuming the check engine light is on.

called for Mass air intake sensor. Replaced already. Could not rely on codes disconnected battery for 15 minutes reconnected light went away but still have same problem

Replaced all components except throttle position sensor and ECM. need how I can pinpoint bad component

it sounds like you have a fuel volume problem i.e. fuel pressure or you could have a vacuum leak somewhere sucking in unmetered air that the mass air flow sensor is not seeing. Could have a tear in the intake tube between throttle body and mass air flow sensor, or a vacuum line, maybe even brake booster hose leaking. It is running better at higher rpm so may rule out fuel pressure but not fuel qaulity.

Thanks for replying, strong odor coming from muffler is noticed when running at 2500 rpm to keep the engine running anything lower above mentioned rpm will stall.

is there any noticeable smoke from exhaust? weird odor tends to make me think the quality of fuel is in question or a restricted exhaust.
