Check engine light came on and engine idle is high
JA: Does the light stay on, or does it blink?
Customer: It currently is staying on. This happened two weeks ago too. had local shop check it. said cam and crank sensor timing issue. cleared code and drove for a week no issues. light came on again drove it home and parked it. fired it up to let someone listen to it and no light or high idle. drove it for another week and light came back on accompanied by high idle again
JA: What is the model/year of your Kia?
Customer: 2012 Kia Rio
JA: Are you fixing your Rio yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Will fix myself, haven't tried anything yet

The check engine light come on when the computer system sees a fault and when this happens the computer will set and store a fault code and or codes. If you can get me the fault codes that your getting I will see if I can help you determine the cause. Post back when you can and we can work from there.

Codes were P0017 and P0014

When they checked this did they also check the cam timing?

Both of these codes can be set if the Cam timing is not aligned correctly. I would have them check it to at least rule this out.
