Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

There is linkage that goes between the handle and door latch to move the latch's internal linkage when you move the handle. If the door handle moves with no resistance then the linkage isn't connected. The problem may be at the latch or door handle. The clips that attach the linkage at the door handle or latch may have broken and allow the linkage to fall off, or the handle itself may have broken.

What will need to be done is remove the door trim panels on the affected doors to physically inspect the latches, linkage and handles to see what has failed and will need to be replaced.
