I just bought a 2012 Kia Sportage AWD in May with a 30 day

Customer Question

I just bought a 2012 Kia Sportage AWD in May with a 30 day warranty which expired 2 weeks ago. I just noticed a thumping noise in the rear when making both left or right 90 degree or harder turns. The thumping continues the entire time I'm turning. What is causing the bumping sounds, and should the repair cost be covered by the dealer who sold me the car?

good morning my name is ***** ***** I will assist

it could be from a worn bushing or suspension part under load. the entire rear would have to examined by someone looking for any thing loose or worn.

as far as warranty, that is up to the dealer. if the 30 days is up, they have the right to decline the warranty claim. what they may do is to offer you something like they eat the parts and you pay the labor as a matter of good faith. that would be up to them.

I would let them at least check the car for the failure and then see what happens

Roy, I'm a female senior citizen, and don't want to be taken advantage of at the dealership. Can you be more specific. This answer seems to be very general.
Expert:  Roy replied 1 year ago.

without me being there, I cannot tell you the exact failure. it could be so many things.

thats why we give advice on failures.

as far as the dealer, thats is up to them.

what specific info do you need???

Like, is it most likely to be the AWD transfer mechanism, a rear axle CV joint, Just needs to be greased, gear teeth in the differential, etc? What are the most likely causes. And is this something that should have been checked before putting the car for sale on their lot?
Expert:  Roy replied 1 year ago.

it could be as simple as a bad tire that has wear on one side or the other.

no to awd drive.

u joints would do it all the time.

no to the gear teeth.

if you have a limited slip differential, there are clutches internal to the rear that may be slipping.

if that is the case, there are additives to stop that from happening.

as far as the check out. they cannot fix anything that is not broke when they have it. if it was not doing the issue with them and even after the 30 days you have owned it, they cannot predict anything that may happen
