Customer Question

I have a 2006 kia sedona that will not shift out of park. When the brake pedal is pushed the brake lights do light up. We have tried the shift lock release and it still isnt working.

  1. We need to remove some trim to get into the shifter to perform some testing, is that something you can do?

trim is removed and ready.

Super, below are 2 links, one of the shifter dis-assembly if needed and the other for the shift lock circuit.

At the ATM on the shifter. Verify the pink wire is power with the key on. Verify yellow is power with the brake pressed. Verify white is ground. If those are good and the solenoid does not move when pressing the brake with the key on then the ATM is faulty.

im sitting on the side of the road 200 miles from there a simple way to test this?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
from what i can tell it is moving....

Since your stuck stranded, lets just get it out of park and verify it will drive and steer, at least then you can get home. On the left side of the shifter is the shift cable. Can you remove that nut. If so then you can move the shift cable by hand to shift through each gear.
