I need a little info.

 

What year is your Rio?

Are you talking about the high mounted light or the regular lights?

the rio is a 2003, it both break lights in the back

REPLACEMENT
REAR COMBINATION LIGHT ASSEMBLY BULB
1.Disconnect negative battery cable.
2.Disconnect electrical connector from light assembly.
3.Remove two mounting screws and one nut from combination light assembly.

4.With bulb holder disengaged, pull bulb holder carefully forward relative to vehicle, and remove from light assembly.
5.Remove bulb as required from bulb holder.
6.Install new bulb of proper type, as shown on bulb holder.
7.Position bulb holder on light assembly and press to engage with light assembly.
8.Install combination light assembly by positioning slightly toward outside of vehicle and sliding inward into position.
9.Install two mounting screws and one nut.
10.Install electrical connector.
11.Connect negative battery cable.

REAR COMBINATION LIGHT
1.Disconnect negative battery cable.
2.Remove two fasteners from trunk end trim.
3.Remove trunk end trim.
4.Remove three screws from trunk side trim.
5.While pulling trunk side trim, remove one nut from rear combination light assembly.
6.Disconnect electrical connector.
7.Remove two screws from rear combination light assembly.

I know where the screws are and can remove those but where is the nut you are talking about located, cannot see it or find it

REAR COMBINATION LIGHT
2.Remove two fasteners from trunk end trim.
3.Remove trunk end trim.
4.Remove three screws from trunk side trim.
5.While pulling trunk side trim, remove one nut from rear combination light assembly

 

Its behind the trim inside trunk (see 2-5 )

This Rio does not have trunk this is the little wagon, has hatch like back not trunk

Trunk side trim : 5 Door
1.Remove two fasteners on trunk end trim.
2.Remove trunk end trim.
3.Remove two screws and one fastener from trunk side trim.
4.Remove one screw from striker.
5.Remove two mounting screws from holder.
6.Disconnect electrical connector.
7.Remove trunk side trim.

Find the answer. Then try and get back to you by 3:00 PM ok.

Ok, i looked at one this morning. It was not the same year, but it was a hatch back.The rear lights on it had 2 screws on the side,and hidden clips on the other. You remove the 2 screws then push the light toward the side of the car to release the clip. Then back toward you to remove it.
