HAVE A 2006 KIA SORENTO 3.5 LITER ECM CANNOT PROPERLY CONTROL THE IDLE HARD STARTING AT TIMES/ OR NO START AT TIMES/ WHEN NO START TACH GAGE DID NOT REGISTER ANY RPM/ PUT CONNECTED SCAN TOOL GOT CODE PO338 CRANK SENSOR HIGH/ IS THIS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THESE TRUCKS? WHERE IS THE SENSOR LOCATED? THANK YOU

Hello!

 

YES! THis is a very common problem on these engines!

 

The crank sensor goes bad causing this code and the hard starting.

Visually inspect the crankshaft sensor for broken or flawed wires. Make sure the sensor is secured tightly. Check the hall effect sensor while cranking or engine running on the White/green wire. A 5 volt square wave is normal. This signal should be consistent and clean.
