Hi,

This is a very, very common failure on the the Grand Cherokees.

You will need to drop the transmission oil pan and remove the filter and check for any broken wires on the governor pressure sensor and governor pressure solenoid and repair if found. If ok as I suspect, then replace both the governor pressure sensor and solenoid. See attached diagram of their location on he valve body
