This code almost always means the crankshaft position sensor has failed which is common on these engines so I'd go ahead and replace that. From my experience the easiest way to replace is with multiple extensions and a 11mm socket, go above/behind transmission to access bolt for sensor. Then you can Pull sensor out from under hood. Give me a minute and I'll upload a picture for you, thanks.

Ok I will be in touch and do you guys have a app for easy communication
Jeep Mechanic: Dan, Technician replied 6 months ago

I'll also mention that I use a wobble extension where socket connects to give it a little flex, the replacement is a bit of a pain the first time. I do not think we have a app yet, let me know if you have more questions. Thanks.

Next thing to check is the camshaft position sensor syncronizer assembly which is what the camshaft position sensor mounts to. Check to see if there is play in it, if so replace. Let me know how it goes, thanks.

When it cuts out is it at a specific rpm such as not wanting to go over 3000 rpm?

Ask Your Own Jeep Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
Cutting out ? What are u talking about ? My car is not cutting out my car has a hard time climbing hills but the engine is working fine
Jeep Mechanic: Dan, Technician replied 6 months ago

When you say it has a hard time climbing hills I was assuming it was because engine is lacking power?

Ask Your Own Jeep Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
The engine rpm seems fine but the car just reduce speed to 30 mph when going uphill and it sounds like the gears is not shifting in time or not at all
Jeep Mechanic: Dan, Technician replied 6 months ago

Have you tried to manually downshift to see if that helps? Does it seem like transmission is slipping?

Ask Your Own Jeep Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
to manually downshifting
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
Explain the symptoms of transmission slipping
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
Manual downshifting does not help with climbing hills
Jeep Mechanic: Dan, Technician replied 6 months ago

Transmission slipping would be where the engine rpm's get as high as they are supposed to but engine speed isn't keeping up. So if you put the gas all the way down engine rpm will go all the way up to 5000-6000 without a problem but power isn't being transferred to the wheels. If this is the case then next thing I'd do is inspect transmission fluid for signs of being burnt, if burnt then you are looking at transmission replacement. Also make sure transmission fluid level is correct. Let me know how it goes, thanks.

Ask Your Own Jeep Question
Customer reply replied 6 months ago
That exactly what happened
Jeep Mechanic: Dan, Technician replied 6 months ago

I'm afraid you are going to need a new transmission so in the meantime I'd try to avoid hills so you don't get stranded. You can try some transmission fluid additive which may give it a little more but you are going to need a new transmission. You can look on www.car-parts.com for used transmissions in your area. Let me know if you have questions or would like replacement instructions, thanks.

Jeep Mechanic: Dan, Technician replied 6 months ago

Sounds good, I do think the crankshaft position sensor was reason for code you were getting but sadly not the main issue which appears to be transmission slipping. Let me know if you need anything, thanks again and have a good night.
