Key turns and intermittently it will not engage starter. I move shifter and eventually it starts.
JA: Can you turn the steering wheel at all? And what about the key? Is it worn or damaged?
Customer: Keys are good steering good
JA: What is the model/year of your Jeep?
Customer: 2008 patriot
JA: Are you fixing your Patriot yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Yes. I am considering a new solenoid replacing old one
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: Sometimes it will die at idle

If you are sure shifting it around helps that would mean the transmission range switch has failed, this tells computer when transmission is in park/neutral which allows starter to function. Here are replacement instructions, let me know if you have questions. Thanks.
