the passenger side started not responding to temperature control about a week ago, then the driver side has started off and on cooling, then blowing warm air. I don't have he vehicle this am but as soon as my daughter gets home, I will check hoses, coolant level.

check the refrigerant charge first. Sounds like you are low on refrigerant. If so, then you have a leak somewhere. A vehicles ac system should never need serviced unless there is a leak or a component has failed.
