Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!I'm assuming that the handles move with normal resistance. If the handles move with no resistance then a linkage issue is likely. The rods from the handles to the latch can come off their attaching clips which will then obviously prevent the latch from moving with the handles. If the handle linkage appears to be intact then the issue is either the latch or possibly an adjustment issue or something closed in the door. If the striker was misadjusted, there is enough play at the hinge pins to cause adjustment issues or something foreign was closed in the door then these things would all cause it to be hard to open again, but these things should have been apparent beforehand. Most likely the latch has failed and will need to be replaced.
