Hi, my name is ***** ***** you checked the coolant level yet? if it gets low, it can get a air bubble in the heater core and cause the intermittent heat, and also cause the overheating.

Coolant was changed several weeks ago, coolant still in overflow tank

ok, if it full, then you most likely have a blown head gasket, this will allow combustion gasses into the cooling system, and gasses will get trapped in the heater core, also causing the intermittent heat, has a block test been done on the cooling system yet?
