Customer Question

Have a 73 CJ5. L6 with stock carburetor. Took it out the other day. Got to the end of the block and it started stuttering. Came home turned it off. Looked at everything (all seemed good) tried starting it but no ignition. If I pump the pedal a couple of times it starts right up, but will die if I take my foot off of the gas pedal.

Hi there,

If you can start it and run at 1500rpm+, but it stalls as you let of the throttle, I'd say you have a blockage in the idle circuit.

If that is the case, would be best to get the carb overhauled.

I could share a trick with you that may work if you are willing to try it.
