Welcome to Just Answer Jeep my name isXXXXX it the factory alarm system?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
Yes. It is the factory alarm and randomly it wont let me start my Jeep. I have learned the locking and unlocking the tailgate trick but that doesn't work anymore.
Expert:  Mark replied 6 years ago.
Ok, thanks. If you can locate the wire harness going to the drivers can get to it behind the drivers side kick panel.......locate the light green wire with an orange tracer and permanently ground this wire. This will prevent the alarm from arming in the first place.
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
Sorry, I'm not the best electrician. What is the best way to permanently ground the wire? Also, will this disable the already armed alarm?
Expert:  Mark replied 6 years ago.
Yes it will turn off the already armed system. All you need to do is cut this wire and connect another piece of wire to it and then ground the other end of this new wire.
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
I cut the wire but was not able to start it afterwards. Any tips?
Expert:  Mark replied 6 years ago.

Did you ground the wire?

You need to ground the wire on the body side, not the wire that goes into the door.

Customer: replied 6 years ago.
I grounded the wire but the alarm system is still engaged.
Expert:  Mark replied 6 years ago.
So, the engine starts and runs for about 2 seconds and then stalls? Is that what happens?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
No. It won't turn over at all. There is no power anywhere in the car.
Expert:  Mark replied 6 years ago.

Ok, so this has nothing to do with the alarm system then.

Maybe you just have a dead battery. Try a jump start and see if that helps.

Customer: replied 6 years ago.
This is a recurring problem. I'll try to start it and the lights will start flashing and affter a while they will stop but I still can't start it. After a couple of days I can go out and start it as if nothing had ever happened.
Expert:  Mark replied 6 years ago.

Well if it won't turn over and there is no power it appears the battery is dead. So, I suggest you try a jump start and have that wire grounded that I told you about.

Let me know how it goes.
