Man what isn't going on with my 2006 XJ8 would be a shorter list… LoL...

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your XJ8 yourself? What have you tried so far?

The situation started last night and finalized itself about an hour ago warning lights are flashing like Christmas lights on my dashboard right now

Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked the fuses? The dashboard bulbs?

The car will not start now won't go in gear the warnings that pop up our gearbox fault, air suspension fault, DSC not available, vehicle to low, ABS fault, parking brake fault...

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

Thats all the problems that have come up on the car's display

Hey Kevin… Those listed above are all the warning lights that are flashing on my display…
Jaguar Mechanic: Kevin, Technician replied 5 years ago

Any battery warning ?

Ask Your Own Jaguar Question
Customer reply replied 5 years ago
no battery warning…
Jaguar Mechanic: Kevin, Technician replied 5 years ago

Ok and when you try to start now what occurrs

Ask Your Own Jaguar Question
Customer reply replied 5 years ago
just a ticking sound… then Instruments flutter, looks like they are resetting or something… then when I take the key out there's a constant beeping noise that eventually stops after 20 seconds
Jaguar Mechanic: Kevin, Technician replied 5 years ago

Ok have you tried jump starting

Ask Your Own Jaguar Question
Customer reply replied 5 years ago
The car was driving fine… all the warnings started flashing on the display… I stopped the car, put it in park and then was unable to put the car back in drive… turned off the car hoping that would reset the computer then it wouldn't start...
Jaguar Mechanic: Kevin, Technician replied 5 years ago

Are brake lights working ?

Ask Your Own Jaguar Question
Customer reply replied 5 years ago
8230; the bake is fully compressed and stiff… there is no play what so ever as it normally does when you step on the brake…
Jaguar Mechanic: Kevin, Technician replied 5 years ago

Do you have a voltmeter ?

Ask Your Own Jaguar Question
Customer reply replied 5 years ago
No voltmeter…
These are the fault warnings listed on the display…
Gearbox Fault
Air suspension fault,
DSC not available,
Vehicle to low,
ABS fault,
Parking brake fault...
Jaguar Mechanic: Kevin, Technician replied 5 years ago

I think its voltage related for some reason battery voltage has dropped .

Ask Your Own Jaguar Question
Customer reply replied 5 years ago
Really… that would cause the car to have all those warnings… and go into a limp mode as it did last night…
Jaguar Mechanic: Kevin, Technician replied 5 years ago

Yes if battery voltage drops it will do exactly this

Ask Your Own Jaguar Question
Customer reply replied 5 years ago
Btw… yesterday a high pitch sound started coming from the engine… when idling it's louder then tappers off when you start accelerating the sound seemed to go away… a little bit later is when all the warning signs started to be displayed...
Jaguar Mechanic: Kevin, Technician replied 5 years ago

Can you see if alternator belt is still intact

Ask Your Own Jaguar Question
Customer reply replied 5 years ago
Not really sure where to look for that sorry… if you can help describe where to look I will take a look...
Jaguar Mechanic: Kevin, Technician replied 5 years ago

If you open bonnet at front of engine you will see pulleys there should be belts on all pulleys

Ask Your Own Jaguar Question
Customer reply replied 5 years ago
Give me a moment Kevin to go downstairs and take a look, of course we got 3 inches of snow last night and it's 20° outside, so this is the perfect weather for checking on mechanical issues outside LoL...
Jaguar Mechanic: Kevin, Technician replied 5 years ago

Ok no worries

Ask Your Own Jaguar Question
Customer reply replied 5 years ago
Both belts seem to be intact and I do not see any shredding of the belts
Jaguar Mechanic: Kevin, Technician replied 5 years ago

Ok i would try to jump start

Ask Your Own Jaguar Question
Customer reply replied 5 years ago
If I disconnect the battery will that help reset the computer so that I can at least put the car in neutral everything just seems to be frozen and locked right now
Jaguar Mechanic: Kevin, Technician replied 5 years ago

Yes you could do this to reset computer

Ask Your Own Jaguar Question
Customer reply replied 5 years ago
ok… so if I reset the computer and am still not able to start the vehicle even after a jumpstart what is your suggestion then…
Jaguar Mechanic: Kevin, Technician replied 5 years ago

You would need to have car plugged into diagnostic machine to see why start is prohibited .without a voltmeter we are gonna struggle

Ask Your Own Jaguar Question
Customer reply replied 5 years ago
I'm sure there's going to be a lot of codes from the multiple fault warnings that are popping up on the display
Jaguar Mechanic: Kevin, Technician replied 5 years ago

They should all be linked though

Ask Your Own Jaguar Question
Customer reply replied 5 years ago
I had read in a previous post that someone with the same gearbox fault display had a transmission failure on their XJ8
Jaguar Mechanic: Kevin, Technician replied 5 years ago

That is possible module failures arent unheard of only way to tell is diagnostic check

Ask Your Own Jaguar Question
Customer reply replied 5 years ago
I would certainly prefer a voltage issue than needing to replace a transmission
Jaguar Mechanic: Kevin, Technician replied 5 years ago

I agree we need to rule this out you should always start with the basics and battery voltage will cause this type of issue

Ask Your Own Jaguar Question
Customer reply replied 5 years ago
Well I'm gonna go and disconnect the battery and hope that it resets the computer just enough so that I can try to restart the car and put it into neutral, thank you for all your help, not sure what more we could do over computer chat right now.
Jaguar Mechanic: Kevin, Technician replied 5 years ago

I agree let me know how you get on and please remember to rate my service

Ask Your Own Jaguar Question
Customer reply replied 5 years ago
Will do… Thanks Kevin
Jaguar Mechanic: Kevin, Technician replied 5 years ago

No problem

Ask Your Own Jaguar Question
Customer reply replied 5 years ago
Damn… no go… disconnected the battery entirely and nothing reset… still all the same warning displays, shifter is still locked in park and the car still will not turn over… sure seems like there is plenty of battery to turn over the engine though…I will have to call a buddy to try and give the car a jump… but I think I should still be able to put the car in neutral even if it is battery issue…
Jaguar Mechanic: Kevin, Technician replied 5 years ago

If volage is low it could prevent shift but if its turning over at nomal speed i agree .it sounds like. Diagnostic check is probrably the way forward
